Il corso di Laurea Magistrale in Ingegneria Energetica e Nucleare si propone l'approfondimento delle conoscenze scientifiche e tecnologiche che costituiscono le applicazioni dell'ingegneria energetica e nucleare. Il corso di Laurea Magistrale in Ingegneria Energetica e Nucleare si propone l'approfondimento delle conoscenze scientifiche e tecnologiche che costituiscono le applicazioni dell'ingegneria energetica e nucleare. Oltre a completare conoscenze nelle discipline ingegneristiche di base, quali la meccanica strutturale, e acquisire competenze trasversali nell’ambito dell’economia dell’energia, il corso si pone l'obiettivo di formare competenze avanzate nell’impiantistica tradizionale, in quella più innovativa volta allo sfruttamento delle fonti rinnovabili e nell’impiantistica nucleare avanzata. Viene inoltre stimolata la capacità in ambiti applicativi, da un lato attraverso lo svolgimento di attività sperimentale con crediti dedicati a misure in laboratori, legate a diversi aspetti dell’ambito energetico e nucleare, e dall’altro attraverso lo svolgimento di un tirocinio curricolare presso aziende del settore o enti pubblici e di ricerca.
L’offerta formativa è strutturata secondo tre percorsi alternativi:
- Renewable energy systems;
- Progettazione e gestione di impianti energetici;
- Sustainable nuclear energy.
Il percorso formativo dedicato agli impianti a fonti rinnovabili è offerto in lingua inglese. Esso si propone di fornire le competenze e gli strumenti conoscitivi per il calcolo, la progettazione e la gestione di componenti, impianti e sistemi che permettono lo sfruttamento delle fonti energetiche rinnovabili, anche in combinazione con le fonti fossili. La preparazione si esplica con insegnamenti che affrontano la disponibilità di risorse energetiche rinnovabili e le tecnologie che ne permettono lo sfruttamento per la produzione di energia elettrica e/o termica. A questi vengono affiancati insegnamenti relativi alle reti energetiche e alle metodologie di ottimizzazione a livello di componente e di sistema.
Il percorso formativo dedicato alla progettazione e gestione di impianti energetici è offerto in lingua italiana. Esso si propone di fornire le competenze e gli strumenti conoscitivi per il calcolo, la progettazione e la gestione di componenti, impianti e sistemi per la climatizzazione degli edifici civili e per il recupero energetico negli impianti industriale. Si propone inoltre di fornire le competenze e gli strumenti conoscitivi per definire l'entità della domanda e individuare le misure necessarie per una utilizzazione razionale dell'energia nei vari settori produttivi, in ambito civile, industriale. La preparazione si esplica con insegnamenti che affrontano la termotecnica, gli impieghi dell'energia in campo industriale e civile, la progettazione di impianti.
Il percorso formativo dedicato all’approfondimento di aspetti dell’ingegneria nucleare è offerto in lingua inglese. Esso si propone di fornire le competenze e gli strumenti conoscitivi per la progettazione di componenti e sistemi per reattori a fissione e fusione nucleare. Sono affrontate le problematiche di radioprotezione, sicurezza e analisi di rischio e affidabilità degli impianti, come pure del ciclo del combustibile. Vengono inoltre analizzati i materiali innovativi, adatti all’utilizzo nel settore.
La preparazione si esplica nello studio di modelli e metodi per la descrizione fisica dei sistemi a fissione e fusione nucleare, dell'ingegneria degli impianti nucleari a fissione e dei reattori a fusione nucleare.
Ogni percorso formativo offre in alternativa un track con corsi di ulteriore approfondimento tematico sulle discipline che lo caratterizzano, oppure un track alternativo, finalizzato all’acquisizione di competenze che, per ciascun percorso, risultano maggiormente multidisciplinari.
La preparazione dei tre percorsi formativi si completa con il tirocinio e i crediti a scelta. Questi includono i sistemi a combustione, la tecnica del freddo e criogenia, le misure termiche e regolazione, l’illuminazione e il controllo del rumore, i modelli per la pianificazione energetica, le applicazioni biomediche delle radiazioni, i materiali avanzati per l'energia, l’energy audit degli edifici, l’energia geotermica, l’uso sostenibile delle biomasse, le terapie termiche, la termofluidodinamica computazionale, la gestione dei sistemi energetici, la protezione dalle radiazioni, gli impianti idroelettrici, la valutazione di impatto ambientale e LCA.

This figure is able to draw up an energy project in both domestic and industrial sectors. He knows the engineering components for both heat and cold production, the fluid which is most suitable for the heat transfer and the issues relating to the compatibility of the materials and the various components.

SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:
- knows the main types of thermal generation plants, both for air conditioning (heating and cooling) and for the production of cold for industrial processes;
- knows the thermo-physical properties of material
- can draft energy and mass balances in civil and industrial systems
- knows how to solve problems that require numerical methods
- plans campaigns for the verification and testing of individual components and energy systems;
- interprets energy related experimental data and simulations

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
- technical design firms for the design and testing of power plants
- technical departments of hospitals, universities, manufacturing companies, chemical companies, etc..

Energy manager, in civil and/or industrial organizations   JOB ROLES:
This figure is able to critically evaluate data on civil and industrial utility energy consumption; on the basis of these evaluations, is able to indicate alternative supply solutions. The engineer understands the electrical and thermal tariff dynamics and is also able to propose actions to reduce energy requirements by assessing their cost-effectiveness.

SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:
- can draft energy balances in civil and industrial systems
- knows the performance and costs of major energy related components
- knows the main energy carriers available on the market and their economic attractiveness based on the size and type of demand
- is able to plan the monitoring and maintenance of power plants with measurement and data acquisition campaigns

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
- public institutions or organizations, required by law n. 10/91 to have a reference energy manager
- energy procurement consultant for large and medium-sized industrial companies

 
Engineer expert in electro-nuclear plants   JOB ROLES:
Mainly carries out the design and management of components and systems used in the production of electricity from nuclear sources.
The figure deals directly with the plant engineering and the physics of nuclear reactors (design of the reactor's thermo hydraulics, of its components and of the neutronic core). Coordinates designers who are experts in other specific areas of the project.
Develops the nuclear plant's safety analyses from a deterministic and probabilistic point of view.
Schedules operations and manages the control and adjustment of nuclear facilities and coordinates the dismantling of power plants.
Coordinates the development of innovative nuclear reactors, giving an essential contribution to the detailed design of prototypes and pilot plants involving both nuclear fission and fusion.


SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:
- knows the thermal and nuclear power plants in both constructive and functional terms, considering all aspects in physics, engineering and technology;
- understands the effects of radiation on materials in detail,
- understands the biological effects and the shielding techniques;
- understands the specific research issues in the physics and engineering of nuclear fusion;
- uses and develops computational models for the design of components and systems, and for the deterministic and probabilistic studies of plant safety.

Engineer experience in the production and management of nuclear fuel   JOB ROLES:
Develops design activities of the nuclear fuel cycle: type and material requirements, manufacturing methods, strategies of use within the reactor core and fuel management after its removal from the core; for each of these phases the engineer knows the normal operating conditions, the incidental risks and the effect of the radiation on materials.
The engineer also deals with issues concerning the monitoring and storage of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste from nuclear power plants and research centres, both in their regular operation and following their dismantlement.
Operates in the construction of sites for the storage of radioactive waste, in terms of location, coordination and development of the project.

SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:
- knows the types and manufacturing methods of the fuel elements of existing nuclear reactors, and has a comprehensive knowledge of the nuclear fuel cycle;
- understands the effects of permanence in the reactor in terms of damage to the material and persons subject to radiation;
- also knows in detail the biological effects of radiation and the shielding techniques;
- uses and develops both probabilistic and deterministic calculation models for the design of the fuel elements, under both normal and incidental operating conditions.

Engineer, expert in design, manufacture and operation of medical or industrial equipment that employs particles and radiation   JOB ROLES:
Designs, develops and manages radiogenic devices for both medical applications (diagnosis and therapy) and industrial (non-destructive analysis and application processes).

The engineer has an in-depth knowledge of the constructive and functional aspects, and particularly of the generation and characterization of the radiation beams and shielding techniques.
In industrial applications the engineer deals with the development and management of sterilization equipment, non-destructive examinations and use of radioactive tracers.
Deals with the instrumentation of nuclear installations for their use in energy, medicine, industry and research.

SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:
- has specific expertise in the fields of nuclear physics and the transport of particles and radiation;
- knows the shielding techniques and the technological aspects of the radiation management, in terms of monitoring, of interactions with the materials and of biological effects.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
- companies that develop and produce x-ray machines;
- reference person for the procurement and management of x-ray machines in industries or hospitals;
