The educational objectives of the MSc degree, to provide engineers with cross cultural backgrounds in production, management, finance and commerce - agreed upon with the partner Universities (AIT –Ireland, UIC – Spain and IPAG Nice – France ) - are the following:
- the ability to operate in an international context in industrial or commercial matters;
- knowledge of the operational methodologies in technology, production, finance and commerce for the management of operational and manufacturing processes;
- knowledge of the financial, technology and methodology aspects for the management of technological innovation processes;
- the ability to work independently and to work effectively, even in multinational groups;
- the ability to deal with change and, therefore, a strong inclination to continuously update one's knowledge.
Students enrolled either in Politecnico or in the foreign Universities, attend the entire first year abroad at a partner University mainly attending courses in the fields of economics and financial management. In this first year they will also be able to choose elective courses among those offered by the partner Universities.
In the first half of the second year all students attend courses, mainly in technology, in Italy. The second semester is dedicated to internship activities normally done in a company in Italy.
The year spent abroad by all students stimulates the propensity to operate in an international context.
The training areas can be divided into three interconnected blocks:
- legal, financial, commercial and business policies
- production planning & scheduling and logistics
- promotion, management and transfer of technological innovation
The educational path ends with the discussion of a dissertation concerning, normally, the theoretical study of the activities done during the internship.

Graduates may find employment in Italy and abroad in the industrial, commercial, services and consultancy sectors with functions, roles and gradually increasing responsibilities that concern:
- the organization, management and improvement of production, coping with the ergonomic and safety issues of the production processes;

Graduates may find employment in Italy and abroad in the industrial, commercial, services and consultancy sectors with functions, roles and gradually increasing responsibilities that concern:
- the organization, management and improvement of production, coping with the ergonomic and safety issues of the production processes;
- the organization and management of direct and reverse logistics and the entire the supply chain, coping with the related ergonomic and safety issues ;
- within industrial research and development, the organization and management of the technological innovation processes and their transfer ;
- marketing and commercial aspects of industrial and service companies;
- administration and financial management both in industry and in service companies.
As a side note, there might also be a propensity to undertake an independent entrepreneurial activity, because of the technological and managerial cross training.

Production engineer in charge of logistics   JOB ROLES:

SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:

- analysis, design and management of direct and reverse logistics networks;
- specification, design and management of a supply chain optimized in accordance with the technological, economic, social, legal and environmental constraints, even on an international scale.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:

Logistics services in manufacturing and commercial service companies. Logistic services companies.
 
Manufacturing process designer   JOB ROLES:

She/he designs and evaluates manufacturing processes

SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:

- definition of the most appropriate production strategy depending on the product, the production volume and the available resources;
- conceptual design and selection of equipment for processing systems;
- economic evaluation of the adopted solutions;
- identification of the time compression techniques to reduce product development times/processes;
- analysis and redesign of the workplace, equipment and working methods taking into account the human factor;
- collaboration in defining automation or work aids in the design phase of the production system

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:

Technical production offices in manufacturing companies
 
Production systems manager   JOB ROLES:

She/he chooses and implements production system management and operation strategies.

SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:

- definition of programming strategies for processing machines, assembly and numerically controlled testing;
- definition of production plans and maintenance of traditional or innovative production systems;
- collaboration, even with coordination and management responsibilities, in production planning and materials management for manufacturing companies;
- procurement planning of traditional and innovative materials and control of their flows;
- determination and planning of work cycles taking into account the human factor

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:

Production units in manufacturing companies
 
Production engineer, in charge of the implementation of methods for production improvement and innovation   JOB ROLES:

She/he contributes to production improvement and innovation activities, in relation to the economic and methodological aspects.

SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:

- financial and economic evaluation of the product innovation improvement strategies;
- implementation of lean production methods, WCM (World Class Manufacturing), Six Sigma, etc. for the improvement and innovation of production and cost reduction;
- evaluation of productivity and efficiency parameters taking into account production systems and human factors;
- implementation of continuous improvement methodologies to optimize the use of production systems in compliance with ergonomic principles (legislative and regulatory references);
- support for the introduction of work aids or automatic systems in the production process, taking into account the human factor.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:

Innovation support and quality management units, mainly in manufacturing companies
 
Production Engineer, in charge of innovation and R & D process management   JOB ROLES:

She/he collaborates in R&D and product innovation activities, regarding the economic and methodological aspects.

SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:

- financial and economic evaluation of the product innovation strategies;
- coordination, project management, and methodological-statistical support to specialists in R & D departments;


CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:

R & D departments of manufacturing companies as a support to innovation processes.
 
Production engineer, in charge of marketing and commercial services.   JOB ROLES:

She/he operates in marketing and commercial services in the industrial and service sectors, both nationally and internationally.

SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:

- execution of market analysis;
- definition of strategies and marketing management, even in e-commerce, both B2C (Business to Customer) and B2B (Business to Business).
- cooperation in the economic/financial and legal management of commercial activities (purchases and sales) of organizations and companies.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:

Commercial and marketing services for manufacturing companies and commercial service companies.
 
Production engineer, financial services officer.   JOB ROLES:

She/he operates in financial services in industry and in banking or insurance services.

SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:

- financial evaluation of investments;
- technical support for the definition and implementation of corporate strategies;
- definition and management of business and financial plans for new investments, especially in the innovative technology industry;
- evaluation and management of financial risks.
