Professional profile

A graduate in Plastic Engineering can work in research groups without any managing task; in production, managing the production cycle; in customer service, as technical support for commercial or administrative fields.
Qualifying aspects
During the past 50 years industrial production of plastics has developed exceptionally reaching the same level as production of steel. All our current technologies - both traditional and advanced - depend on plastics and the production of these materials will increase in the next years.
People who deal with this need have an interdisciplinary education and it is the reason why the Politecnico di Torino created this specific degree course.
Job opportunities
This degree course is technology oriented and gives a lot of employment opportunities.
For example in plastic industries, graduates can deals with research, production and control of quality processes and technical services thanks to their specialized technological education. Employment opportunities vary from technical areas, to the managing of production, maintenance and customer services.

Course structure

This course aims to develop technicians with a deep knowledge of industrial production processes. The graduates must have an in depth knowledge of plastics and the processes that involve it. The common topics are mathematics, physics, chemistry, etc. There are also scientific topics on mechanics, energetics and production systems.
The technological-packaging curriculum is oriented to the study of plastics. The most important topics concern packaging, packaging and environment, the post-manufacturing of plastics, design of plastic packagings and equipment.
Laboratories
There is a lab for plastics and for most of the other experimental courses.
Further activities
Visits to industries are arranged by professors.

II and III year of this course are included in the Progetto di Rafforzamento delle Lauree Professionalizzanti (PRLP)(Reinforcement Project for Professional Degrees).

Final exam

The final exam consists of the public discussion of a dissertation or a written thesis. The final assesment of the student is a combination of the average score obtained through all courses attended during his/her academic period plus the score of his/her final exam.

Master of Science (Laurea specialistica)

After the Bachelor (Laurea di I livello) it is possible to enter the Master of Science (Laurea specialistica) in Material engineering (Torino).
Master of Science Degree in Material engineering
Mathematics, engineering and structure of substances are futher studied in depth during the masters. Knowledge of economy and law are also introduced.
Students can specialize in different types of materials, for which there are different courses: Structural Materials and Functional Materials for Electronics and Telecommunications
It is possible in some cases to get a double degree in partnership with another European university.
