Professional profile

A graduate in Architectural engineering works in the field of building and deals both with architectural and constructional aspects. He/She has solid basic education and is able to plan, realize, maintain and manage buildings. His/Her skills give him/her a high professional profile for employment.
Qualifying aspects
The quality required in the projects needs high professional profiles and the structural engineer has a wide range of competence in the design and managing of building processes. He/She can operate considering various technical and aesthetical problems and can plan and coordinate complex systems of the structural process.
Job opportunities
The architectural engineer can work both in public bodies and private firms; he/she can manage complex building sites; coordinate stages of the productive process; estimate the possibility of a work, etc.

Course structure

Topics common to the entire Program
The first 2 years include basic topics like mathematics, physics, design and architecture, topography, assessable value, etc. Topics characterizing the different areas
General Culture prepares the student to proceed with the master; topics such as planning skills are studied in depth.
Construction aims to develop experts in building objects, according to the technical, historical and contemporary knowledge of planning methods and thanks to his/her evaluation skills on environmental impact.
Management and Organization aims to develop technicians in different stages of the building process, referring in particular to regulatory and procedural aspects of building sites and management firms.
Survey and Management of Heritage Sites aims to develop technicians in the field of survey and real estate evaluation; this requires knowledge of architecture in its historical, structural and technological aspects and relationships within an urban context.
Laboratories
Planning activities in the field of building will be arranged. There are also computer science labs, since this topic is very important.
Further activities
During the III year, firms and technical offices will be visited in order to gain knowledge on planning and developing buildings.

The II and III year of this course are included in the Progetto di Rafforzamento delle Lauree Professionalizzanti(PRLP)(Reinforcement Project for Professional Degrees).

Final exam

The final exam consists of the public discussion of a dissertation or a written thesis. The final assesment of the student is a combination of the average score obtained through all courses attended during his/her academic period plus the score of his/her final exam.

Master of Science (Laurea specialistica)

After the Bachelor (Laurea di I livello) it is possible to enter the Master of Science (Laurea specialistica) in Architectural engineering.
Master of Science Degree in Architectural engineering
The engineer can design buildings, transform and modify the physical environment, taking into account aesthetic, functional, structural, technical aspects and even the needs of the society. He/She can also undertake other projects, coordinating specialized workers.
He/She can work both in private and in public bodies and as a freelancer. With this degree it is possible to enter the Master of Science in Architecture at the Politecnico di Torino , class 4/S of the I and II School of Architecture.
