A graduate in Mechanical engineering works in the mechanical field and in various other technical fields. He/She can design, manage and upkeep productive systems; work in service agencies, and as technicians to check quality and security; etc.
Qualifying aspects
Mechanical engineering offers a wide range of job opportunities, given its importance in modern society. Thanks to the flexibility of a solid technical and scientific education, not focusing on one particular aspect, the mechanical engineer has the ability to adapt himself/herself quickly to the various professional requirements of the job; he/she can self-update his/her knowledge to tackle every kind of problem.
Job opportunities
A mechanical engineer can work in industries that design and manufacture mechanical components, in services agencies and in the commercial sector. They can also work in public bodies as technicians.

Course structure

This curriculum provides basic knowledge in disciplines such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, technical design and computer science; in disciplines within the industrial engineering field like technical physics, electrotechnics and electric machines; and in mechanical engineering topics like mechanical design, industrial systems, etc.
After the degree the candidate is eligible for employment or attend the Master of Science Degree (Laurea specialistica).
In Alessandria, topics deal with industrial automation and technologies of turning plastics, but it is possible to work in other fields as well as study for the master of science degree.
Experimental activities and computer science labs will be arranged.

Some courses require visits to firms and manufacturing industries.

There is also the opportunity to obtain a double degree in partnership with some European universities.

Final exam

The final exam consists of a public discussion of a dissertation or a written thesis. The final assesment of the student is a combination of the average score obtained through all courses attended during his/her academic period plus the score of the final exam.

Master of Science (Laurea specialistica)

After the Bachelor (Laurea di I livello) it is possible to enter the Master of Science (Laurea specialistica) in Mechanical Engineering.
The Master's Degree has a common I year and a specialized II year, where a particular filed is studied in depth.
It is possible to attend the I year in Torino and the specialized II year in Mondovì in the Agricultural and food field.
It is also possible to enter the Master of Science Degree in Mechathronics Engineering (Torino) after attending a specific I year.
Master of Science Degree in Mechanical engineering (Torino and Mondovì)
The Master's Degree in mechanical engineering gives the necessary know-how to be empoyed in any industrial field; as a designer or manager; and in Research and Development activities.
The engineer can work in public and private firms and as a freelancer in design and consultancy fields.
During the I year of the course basics of mechanical engineering are sharpened. The curriculum includes: Automation, Systems Planning, Planning and Production, Transportation, etc. Just for a few students there is a Thermomechanical Curriculum, with lectures in English, with which it is possible to obtain both the Master's Degree and the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at University of Illinois, Chigago.
It is even possible to study abroad in several European universities, and in some cases it is possible to obtain a double degree.
Each curriculum ends with a written work that requires a high level of planning and/or experimental research.
Thanks to his/her education the Master's graduate can solve complex problems working independently or working in a group; work in multi-disciplinary fields, different from his/her original specialization.


What is the difference between the Degree Course in Mechanical Engineering and the one in Mechathronic Engineering? There is a big difference between the two degrees. The Degree in Mechathronic Engineering falls under the Department of Information Engineering and gives a lot of computer science, electronics and authomation control skills, while industrial skills are very less (just 30 credits on 180).
