The degree course in Electronic Engineering has a single core curriculum that provides basic engineering concepts and thorough knowledge of the main characteristics of electronic components, devices and systems and their applications. The programme begins with topics common to all engineering, then goes on to more specific content of the information sector, and concludes with subjects focused on different aspects of electronics. Many courses include laboratories in measurement and design to strengthen the student's understanding of the interaction between mathematical models and experimental reality, fundamental in this branch of engineering.
The first year of the undergraduate degree, common to all engineering degree programmes, is devoted to basic engineering subjects: mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, as well as English. Moreover, at the first year there is a course which aims to give students the fundamental programming skills, required to an electronic engineer. The second year explores mathematics and physics as they relate to information technology, and includes courses on topics essential for those working in this sector: electrical engineering, general electronics and measurement. The third year focuses on the specific contents of electronic engineering, integrated with topics of telecommunications and automation. Emphasis is placed on implementation, design and in-depth study, preparing BSc graduates to enter the labour market directly or to continue their studies with a Master of Science degree.
During the third year students can choose an internship in a company.
The final exam includes the preparation of a written dissertation on a small design related to the main aspects of the Electronic engineering.
Given the large presence of students from other nations, courses are taught in Italian and English. It is also possible to attend part of the courses abroad and achieve double degrees, under agreements with universities in other countries.
A degree in Electronic Engineering gives direct access to the Master of Science programmes in ICT's area.
