The Masterís Degree Course in Management Engineering is aimed at preparing engineers who will be open-minded to the systematic problems that characterize the every-day life of a company. The objective of the Course is to train a graduate to be culturally prepared in the technological and in the economic-managerial fields, who will be capable of managing product and service innovations. The educational plan will follow a route that starts with the analysis of market structures, from an economic and legal point of view, and goes on to the management of new product development projects, company strategies, organizational planning, production system management and quality management.
The final purpose is to create a high-profile professional figure who will be able to intervene actively in strategic and technical-operative decisions (the planning and management of business models, organizational structures, development projects of new products/services, financial choices, etc...), and who will be able to influence the competitiveness of companies and organizations operating in contexts characterized by elevated innovation, but also by a marked technological and market complexity.
The courses offered in the Masterís Degree Course in Management Engineering are characterized by two types of lessons: the first, which is common to all those who are enrolled, is characterized by themes, which, together, make up the backbone of the economic-managerial education program; the second will allow the students to specialize in education programs that cover different managerial areas. Eight different paths are in fact foreseen in the second term of the second year: Automation, Energy, Finance, Informatics, Innovation, Logistics, Production and Services. The educational areas and the relative specific skills for both the lessons shared by all the students and for the lessons relative to the specialization courses are illustrated in detail in the A4b2 framework.

The main career and professional opportunities for Industrial Engineering and Management graduates regard roles in: process engineering; product or service life-cycle planning; company management; management of information systems in support of business processes; and financial planning, both in public and private organizations.
Considering the novelty of some profiles emerging from this MSc program, not all job opportunities for Industrial Engineers and Managers are covered by the professional unit nomenclature (NUP) classification proposed by the Italian Institute of Statistics (ISTAT). Considering these limits, the Collegio di Ingegneria Gestionale also makes direct reference to the classification provided by EUCIP (European Certification of Information Professionals) for the professional profiles related to the design and management of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and of corporate information systems.

Expert in the management of innovation projects.  JOB ROLES:

Being able to deal with innovation projects connected to the development or improvement of products and services as well as the relative company processes. Operating in horizontal connection roles and functions between the technical, production, logistics, marketing, information systems, finance and control areas. Intervening in strategic planning processes, in the analysis of technologies and in the definition and management of industrial plans.

SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:

Capacity to analyze the determiners of the profitability of a market, integrating elements relative to competition dynamics, the strategies of a company, the reference regulations, as well as to the technological evolution of products and services.

Capacity to analyze how the main macro-economic variables can influence the definition and execution of a companyís strategies.

Capacity to identify the most relevant elements in the organizational planning of a company, in function of the characteristics of the companyís strategies and products.

Capacity to evaluate an economic plan connected to a new investment or to the launching of new products and services, while taking into consideration financial sustainability aspects.

Knowledge of marketing instruments: marketing levers, pricing methods and strategies in different contexts, distribution strategies and the role of contracts in the alignment of the actors in the distribution sectors.

Knowledge of techniques for the management of product development project portfolios, for market researches, sales forecasting and technology dissemination processes.

Works as an analyst in support of senior management within the areas of marketing, production and finance for the definition and implementation of the respective strategies.

Capacity to analyze and business flows and processes.

Knowing how to forecast the income and patrimonial implications of specific company choices of both an operative and a financial type.

Capacity to understand the interaction between financial market trends, investment opportunities and the capital structural choices of companies.

Knowledge of legal aspects connected to the setting up of a new company.

Capacity to apply quantitative risk management instruments and to identify, evaluate and manage the main financial, credit and operative risks.

Industrial engineer specialized expert in the management of information systems to support company processes   JOB ROLES:

Analyzing company processes, defining the information requirements, and identifying the adequate informatics solution typologies and the architectures of the information systems. Participating in programs and projects for the improvement of the information systems and of the organization performances in light of the necessary equilibrium between risks, costs and benefits.

SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:

Capacity to apply techniques for the development of innovation projects based on the use of ICT (Information Communication Technology).

Knowledge of the analysis, planning, control and development logics of the information systems in goods and service production companies, including the aspects of user interaction.

Understanding of the specific managerial aspects pertaining to organizational contexts aimed at the development and supply of ICT services.

Industrial engineer specialized in operations management  JOB ROLES:

Covering responsibility roles in the management of the specific operative activities of companies, in the production area and in the internal and external logistics areas.

SKILLS RELATED TO THE ROLE:

Knowledge of the management strategies applicable to a production system.

Knowledge of the integrated planning and production techniques that are used in the manufacturing industry.

Capacity to apply methods in order to evaluate the efficiency, effectiveness and economic sustainability of a production system.

Knowledge of the main process control and acceptance control techniques in both the raw material acquisition phase and in the introduction onto the market phase of the product/service.

Capacity to apply quality measurement methodologies and those pertaining to the fundamental concepts foreseen in quality reference regulations.

Capacity to apply planning, programming, monitoring and control methods of commissions through the use of quantitative instruments.

In-depth knowledge of themes, such as the structure of distribution systems, the outsourcing of logistic activities, the impact of new technologies (e-logistics), and the solutions that are introduced in different industrial and commercial sectors.

Capacity to deal with the main problems of a supply chain, through the application of quantitative and qualitative analysis instruments.

The Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management includes two distinct types of teachings, the first type consists of typical subjects of business management training and is compulsory for all students, the second allows a choice among specific training courses with which students can complete their technical and economic education through a range of proposed courses.
The educational objectives in terms of learning outcomes are detailed in the following table.
The entire MSc degree program can also be attended in its version entirely offered in English, with a (currently) limited number of available curricula to choose from.
