Professional profile

This course is in Class 54/s, Master of Science Degrees (Laurea specialistica) in: Land, Town and Environment Planning and has the identical academic aims and admission criteria of academic activities (pointed out by the Law DM 28 novembre 2000).
This course focuses on the most relevant innovations in institutional and legislative set-ups that regulate planning activities, like the laws that dictates the alteration of Titolo V della Csotituzione, and the changeover from "town planning" to "environmental management". The unique features of this course are planning of processes and for environmental management. In this course, we pay particular attention to strategic approaches, its affect on environmental quality and the aesthetic values of urban and suburban landscapes.
The student is able to analyze, evaluate, plan and elaborate strategies and manage the urban, environmental and territorial processes, preserving and increasing the value of the landscape.
This course aims at producing expert engineers in:

  • production or coordination of environmental, territorial and urban strategic planning;
  • planning, installation, and management of complex programmes and projects for the functional, environmental and economical upgrading of towns and terrotory etc.
    This Master of Science (Laurea specialistica) is aimed for students who have finished Bachelors degree (Laurea di I livello), students coming from similar courses (with preference to Architecture) and also for students coming from different courses: the regulations of the course determine the criteria for admissions.
    The topics studied have a very diverse nature (for example town planning, architecture, socology, geography, history, economy, ecology, mathematics, computer science, etc) in order to have a solid understanding of the complexity and importance of territorial and environmental problems and of the responsibilites that come with it.

    Job opportunities

    A graduate can work both as a freelancer (registered in the Register of Architects as "Planner") and in public or private bodies.
    He/She can occupy positions involving high responsibilities and manage planning equipments.
    The most common employment fields are:

  • production of local or global plans, with skills in landscape and environmental strategic planning;
  • planning, installation, realization and managing of complex upgradation and economic re-generation projects.

    Final exam

    1. To be admitted to the final exam the student must have successfully passed all the exams of the program of study.
    2. The final exam for the bachelor's degree (Laurea di I livello) consists of a public discussion of a dissertation or of a written thesis. The final exam for the master's degree (Laurea specialistica) consists of a public discussion of a dissertation worked out by the student, under the guidance of a professor. The final assessment of the student is a combination of the average score obtained through all courses attended during his academic curriculum and the score of the final exam.
    3. Educational structures decide how the Examining Board, that will give the master's degree (Laurea specialistica), is made up.
    4. The Examining Board for the bachelor(Laurea di I livello) is made up of 5 to 7 members, including the President; the Examining Board for the master (Laurea specialistica)is made up of 7 to 11 members, including the President. In both cases most of the members are professors or permanent researchers. The Examining Board can give up to 110 points; honors can be given if the mark is 110 and if all members agree. With the master's degree it is possible to obtain the Dignità di stampa in case the final mark is 110 with honors and all the members agree.
