Thesis type RESEARCH / EXPERIMENTAL

Description The objective of this research thesis is to analyze the state of the art of existing technologies and tools in the field of geographic information systems (GIS), WebGIS, city models, and other related domains [1-5]. The focus will be on examining how these technologies can be utilized to visualize spatial data and models in real-time, specifically those related to the energy data of buildings.
This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive overview and comparison of the current visualization tools used in transitioning from 3D GIS to urban digital twins within the discipline called Urban Energy System Modeling (UESM), and it encompasses the broader concept that includes detailed building descriptions.
In this research thesis, the student will develop knowledge on data management of 3D city models for complex UES. One of the objectives of this research thesis is thus the integration and harmonisation of 2D and 3D data, such as point clouds, Digital Elevation Models, cartographic datasets and real-time energy data.

The milestones of the thesis to reach are the following:
- Systematic Literature Review
- Case studies data collection
- Definition of KPI and parameters to be evaluated
- Selection of the free and open-source solutions (FOSS)
- Data visualization and comparison
- Evaluation of the results and KPI
