Thesis type EXPERIMENTAL AND MODELING
Description The project focuses on geophysical tools to model and monitor the subsurface medium beneath bridge piles with particular regard to the detection and delineation of erosion processes. These tools are of paramount importance to monitor any possible damage to the bridges’ piles and foundations. A set of laboratory experiments will be carried out to acquire electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and ground probing radar (GPR) data in a controlled environment in the laboratory. Field data will be also acquired on several bridges nearby Torino. The candidate will work on laboratory and/or field data for subsurface modelling.
Required skills Good knowledge of applied geophysics, coding skills (MATLAB), high team-work ability.
