Description Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), or drones, have emerged as versatile tools for various applications, including surveillance, environmental monitoring, and delivery services. However, establishing reliable communication links among UAVs remains a critical challenge due to factors such as flight conditions, distance, and channel errors. Mesh technology based on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth offers a promising solution to address these challenges by enabling dynamic, self-configuring networks among UAVs. This proposal outlines a master's thesis project aimed at researching and enhancing mesh technology for reliable UAV communication.
Objectives: The primary objectives of this thesis project are as follows:
• Investigate the feasibility and performance of mesh technology based on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth for connecting UAVs, with a focus on small drones like
the Crazyflie 2.1.
• Develop and optimize communication protocols tailored to the specific
constraints and requirements of UAV applications, considering factors
such as reliability, latency, and scalability.
• Implement the proposed solution on mini Linux-powered boards, with a
particular emphasis on ESP8266 or ESP32 processors, while exploring
alternative options.
• Evaluate the performance of the developed system through simulations
and real-world experiments, considering various flight conditions,
distances, and channel error scenarios.
• Explore the integration of automatic control principles to enhance the
resilience and adaptability of the mesh network in dynamic environments.
