Structural optimisation of wind turbine blade for offshore applications

Thesis type NUMERICAL

Description The increasing blade length of offshore wind turbines has become a prominent trend, posing a significant challenge in structural design. This is primarily due to the flexibility of the blades and the large variations in the loads they experience.
The aim of this master's thesis is to perform an aero-structural optimization of the offshore wind turbine blade. The chosen software for reference is Numad, a MATLAB code that serves as an interface for Ansys, a 3D finite element software.
Within Numad, the student will have the capability to define the geometry and planform of the blade. The optimization process will consider various constraints, such as static strength resistance, prevention of buckling phenomena, and limiting blade deformation.
The ultimate goal is to develop a blade that is optimized specifically for the conditions of the Mediterranean Sea.
