Descrizione A small molecule called P4VB has been developed and it is known to bind to specific amino acids on proteins such as tubulin and actin. When illuminated with laser light, it shifts the wavelength in relation to the local pH values. It has been determined that it penetrates the membrane of living cells. In this project, the student will perform assays with both normal and cancer cells aimed at determining the changes in cytoplasmic pH for various cells. The experiments will be performed at the University of Alberta in Canada.
Conoscenze richieste basic laboratory skills such as micropipetting, cell culture and confocal microscopy would be an asset but the student will undergo specific training on site.
Note There may be a small amount of financial support available for deserving candidates.
