Description In order to support the surgeon in the preoperative planning of maxillofacial operations, which have a particular impact on the aesthetic appearance, it would be advisable to show the face mesh, with colours, superimposed on the 3D bone model obtained from the CT scan segmentation.
An alignment problem arises between the face mesh and the CT scan, which are made with different reference systems.
The thesis work requires:
- to define the most suitable tool for scanning the face, among those available, i.e. depth camera and 3D scanner
- projecting markers onto the face to position the patient's head with known orientation (an hypothesis could be to project two orthogonal laser planes onto the face to position it correctly)
- transfer and align the face mesh onto the 3D bone model obtained from the CT scan
- verify the result based on matching landmarks between bone tissue and face surface
