Description Topic 1: We consider vortices with massive cores in planar condensates formed by two components. These vortices, representing topological excitations emerging in the majority component, feature cores occupied by the atoms of the minority component in the regime of strong interspecies interaction. The dynamical properties of vortex configurations are investigated considering the complex interplay among the physical parameters (interspecies and intraspecies interactions, atom masses, numbers of atoms) of this system and the effect of realistic confining geometries due to the potentials trapping in the fluid.

Topic 2: The Bose-Hubbard model provides an effective theoretical framework for describing the properties of bosonic fluids characterized by one or more components at low temperatures. Systems with a single component can be studied to understand how the presence of dipolar interactions among bosons (in addition to the usual interspecies and intraspecies interactions and interwell tunneling parameters) modifies the structures of the phase diagram leading to the onset of new complex quantum phases. For two-component systems (binary mixtures) the formation of quantum phases and the phase separation/mixing effect (well-known in in large-scale lattices) are studied in mesoscopic arrays of potential wells together with the properties relevant to their nonlinear dynamics.
