Description The proposed activity is part of the European QuantERA project “Integrated Microwave-to-Optical Conversion by Atoms on a superconducting chip (MOCA)” in collaboration with University of Tubingen, Institut d’Optique d’Aquitaine in Bordeaux, Wigner Research Centre for Physics in Budapest e FORTH Institute in Heraklion.
The goal of the project is to develop an integrated chip for the conversion between microwaves and optical photons using an ensamble of ultracold atoms.
In detail, the candidate will fabricate and characterize optical waveguides and cavities in silicon nitride coupled to superconducting resonators. The fabrication consist of deposition of thin films of silicon nitride by Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and characterization of the optical properties of the material. Waveguides and cavities will be fabricated by Electron Beam Lithography (EBL). Waveguides will be characterized by a customized setup. Within the 6 months, short visiting periods at Tubingen or Bordeaux may be eventually scheduled.
The experimental activity will be carried out partially in Chivasso (CVD) and partially at INRIM (EBL + optical characterization).
