Description Magnetic gears are devices that transfer torque between two mechanical axes without contact between the parts. In the process of electrification of energy end uses, it is increasingly necessary to transfer power from axes controlled by electric motors, with high rotation speeds (above 5000 rpm) to axles connected to mechanical loads with rotation speeds minor (for example the wheels of a vehicle or the propellers of an aeronautical engine). Magnetic Gears, thanks to their efficiency and absence of contact, act as a high-performance interface for this task.
The design process of magnetic gears must take into account many criteria that concern the coupling of different physical fields, mainly electromagnetic fields and mechanical stresses.
Starting from experience gained with the construction of an experimental prototype, the thesis aims to create a parametric design model which, through design optimization techniques, implements a design standard for applications mainly intended for the automotive sector.
The process will be carried out in an open environment so as to be usable by different research groups.
