Thesis type DEVELOPMENT

Description The thesis project is developed in the context of home automation for older adults. The project is divided into several more or less complex objectives that can be assigned to several students.

The first objective is to use devices such as Google Assistant to provide services dedicated to this category of users (e.g., remembering to take medication, remembering birthdays). Then create conversational agents that help them in daily activities. The requirements elicitation will be carried out with the psychology department of the University of Turin and will be devoted to studying the type of interaction and the type of questions to be asked. Some of the answers will have to notify loved ones or health personnel of some potentially critical situations also detected by the reading of IoT sensors present in the house or worn by the user.

The second objective requires conversational agents to help the users to use entertainment applications (e.g., crossword puzzles, quizzes) or set up video calls with friends or loved ones or create communication channels in parallel to the use of content (e.g. Netflix party).
The use of devices such as tablets or smartphones is not envisaged. Applications will have to be developed for Android Smart TVs that will not have to be used with the remote control, but only by voice (e.g., "video call Marta", "today I want to watch the football match at 9 pm").

The third objective is for the user to communicate with an assistance operator. In addition to establishing a video call, the operator can see some data coming from various sensors present in the house. It is, therefore, necessary to create a web interface that allows the operator to receive requests from users, make video calls (on the user's TV), and view information from wearable devices and sensors in the home.

Required skills Java / Kotlin
Android development
Web development (only for objective 3)

Notes Constant commitment is required. This kind of commitment is not compatible with:
- more than 12 missing credits (~ 2 exams)
- being a working student.
