Descrizione Real-Time Operating Systems, in the embedded, manage several system functionalities, such as interrupts, memory management and exceptions, further correctly running the program. In safety-critical applications such as Automotive, Space domains are essential to keep the deadline. Even for a single task, losing real-time might cause a safety hazard. The missing real-time deadline can lead to several reasons, like code execution errors, cyber-attacks, etc. The key to making the system resilient to those events, beyond minimizing the occurrences, is a very efficient detection strategy that works quickly.
The work will focus on analyzing and proposing an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) integrated into the real-time operating system that exploits Hardware Performance Counters (HPC). The system shall detect both system malfunctions with safety impacts and potentially malicious software running in real-time to improve the resiliency of the systems.
