Description Future electric vehicles can be considered as floating batteries that can help during critical energy situation. Thus, in Smart-city and Smart grid scenarios, electric vehicles can become crucial actors for demand side management and demand response strategies. To feed such algorithms, we need to analyze the behavior of citizens in urban mobility. Unfortunately, such detailed information is not publicly available. Hence, we need to generate realistic synthetic dataset to test and develop such algorithms.

The thesis will focus on the development of a software tool to mimic human activities performed in the city during the day. This research will start from the analysis of Time Use surveys, which are statistical information on user behaviors provided by ISTAT (National Institute of Statistics). Then the candidate will test different techniques, such as Markov Chains, to simulate the human behaviors with a good approximation. Finally, this tool will be integrated in an existing simulator to evaluate the impact on human actions in strategies for energy demand (i.e. demand side management and demand response).
