Description Video analysis in sports has several potential applications, from recognizing and tagging events of interests in sports video, to detailed analysis of athletes movements and position that can provide useful analytics for players, coaches and sports team. The goal of this ongoing project is to detect and classify events from annotated video sequences (e.g. football, basketball), given the results of a tracking system that records the position of the players and ball. Information about the athletes, the balls, events and game statistics will be conveyed to the users using advanced visualization techniques. Multiples thesis are available to a) apply image processing and machine learning techniques to detect meaningful events in sports sequence, b) develop advanced user visualization and interaction technique, and c) generate synthetic datasets from game simulators to further improve and test the system. Skills possessed or to acquire: programming skills, machine learning, image analysis, animation and graphics, visualization technique.
