Description Integrated reuse of waste from various human activities, such as urban waste, byproducts of industrial processes and / or farming, and agricultural waste, is one of the cornerstones of the circular economy. The efficient exploitation of energy sources, the reduction of the environmental impact of productive activities and, in general, the material resource saving require the development of processes for intelligent reuse of waste, integrated with the economic-productive system of the territory.
The thesis will focus on the specific case of the ecological pole Acea Pinerolese Industriale Spa, a multi-utility complex set up in Pinerolo (TO), which manages on the territory a variety of services for municipalities, businesses and citizens. Starting from the recovery and transformation of waste, through water management, to the production and distribution of both thermal energy and natural gas, Acea is one of the most modern facilities today to treat organic fraction obtained from differentiated collection of waste, and exploit the outcomes by integrated cycles.
Thesis activity first involves the analysis of the existing process flows at Acea, followed by the implementation of a functional model to assess the integration among individual processes, identify inefficiencies / wastes, compare alternative solutions, and propose “Lean” evolutions.
The thesis will also aim at assessing the sustainability of the various existing product lines / services as well as other potentially evolving ones in the wider context of the circular economy.
In case of interest, there is also the possibility of taking the stage at Acea.
