Description Emergency evacuation is the movement of people from a potentially dangerous place to a safe place due to threat or occurrence of a disastrous event. The possible causes for evacuation include earthquakes, building fires, blasts, military attacks, etc.
Agent-based models (ABM) are used to model complex and heterogeneous systems such as infrastructures and they can be applied in a vast range of fields like biology, business problems, ecology, social science, technology, earth science, network theory. An “agent” is an entity with a set of characteristics and rules. Agents can represent individuals, groups, companies, infrastructures, etc.
Specifically the student will takle the issue of emergency evacuation in the urban environment, by using ABMs possibly implemented in Python programming language. The ABM model will be integrated in a platform, which simulates the urban environment behaviour during a cathastrophic event.
