Descrizione Spread Spectrum is a known technique capable to mitigate the Electromagnetic interferences (EMI) emissions in dc/dc switching converters by continuously changing the converter switching frequency.
Dual random spread spectrum is a particular and recently proposed technique where the change in the switching frequency is regulated by a signal that is the sum of two components, the first at higher and the second at lower frequency. The aim of this approach is to cope with some optimization issues related to a change in measurement setting parameters when switching to one frequency band to another one.
The expected results of this thesis are:
* A set of measurements on the prototype already developed implementing the dual frequency modulation.
* A theoretical understanding, at least at intuitive level, of the beneficial effects of the dual random modulation with respect to a standard spread spectrum approach.
* The verification of the advantages of the approach by means of circuital simulation.
* The verification of the advantages of the approach by means of measurements on a realistic EMI setup, based on a switching dc/dc converter provided by STMicrolectronics.

This activity will we in collaboration with STMicroelectronics (research lab in Politecnico di Torino, near Aula 12), an partially hosted in the STM lab.

Conoscenze richieste * Acquaintance with Matlab
* Good knowledge of circuital simulation tools (spice and/or cadence and/or simplis)
* Good skills in circuit measurements and design
