Description The work will investigate the electro-active properties of materials bormed by specific architectures of chitin scaffolds, opening exciting perspectives to build unusual smart materials.
The experimental work will consist in: extracting and characterizing (molecular spectroscopies, electron microscopy, X ray scattering) the chitinous scaffold of tubeworms, post-processing it into a functional material, and investigating its electro-mechanical properties.
The work will be conducted in the Polymer Materials Engineering Laboratory (IMP) of the University of Lyon1, in Lyon, France.

Required skills We seek for a student with a strong interest for experimental work, and a background in polymer materials. Additional skills in electrical measurements will be particularly valued.
Notes The project can start form early 2019 and will last for around 6 months, with a grant of 600 € per month. It can also be supplemented with an Erasmus+ grant (about 400 € per month) for foreign students.
