Description Prototheca is a unicellular algae that divides by endomitosis and doesn't sustain photosynthesis. It is a severe pathogen for cattle causing acute, sometime even lethal mastitis. It poses a real danger for European animal farms and is difficult to treat with commonly used drugs or antibiotics, which makes it an important target for drug discovery. Prototheca belongs to the Chlorophytes phylum and the Trebouxiophyceae class. Its closest and best known relative is Chlorella. While its genome is recalcitrant to investigation, I understand that your lab has been able to isolate and characterize the tubulin gene families, and is in possession of the amino acid sequences for the corresponding tubulin isoforms, which is necessary for us here to perform in silico analysis as is outlined below in this letter. Our challenge and objective in this study is to identify by structural analysis and computational modeling some potentially efficacious antimitotic drugs. This project will be developed in collaboration with Dr. Diego Breviario from CNR, Milano.

Required skills molecular dynamics, bioinformatics, docking
