Assistive listening devices for hearing-impaired people

Description The focus of this thesis proposal is on instruments supporting hearing-impaired people especially when they are not wearing dedicated hearing aids. The objective is the design and prototype implementation of a device that could be wirelessly linked to different equipment like smartphones, PCs, external sensors, smart TVs, etc. For instance, a bracelet could be used for receiving tactile alerts when the person is not wearing hearing aids. An alternative realizations could be based, e.g., on a programmable LED t-shirt, which could be exploited to display to the hearing-impaired person the live transcript of spoken words during a conversation. The thesis will be carried out in collaboration with a hospital in Turin.
