Description With age, subjects experience an assortment of motor complications ultimately affecting their balance abilities. Fall is the most severe consequence of balance impairments. Different training protocols have been applied to improve posture control in the elderly. While subjects have been generally observed to sway to lesser extents with these protocols, sway reduction is often accompanied by increased muscular effort. Recently, evidence has shown young, health individuals are able to reduce their muscular effort during standing with EMG feedback without hindering stability. This theses tests for whether the benefits of postural training with EMG-audio feedback may extend to aged subjects.
