Description Internet services are now also provided by very large constellations of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites (e.g., Space X Starlink). They are different from traditional satellite services, since the satellites can process data on board and they can communicate directly with other satellites. At the same time, their architecture is different from traditional network architecture since the topology is very dynamic and the connectivity is periodic (due to the orbital paths).
The aim of the thesis is test the performance of real applications, running in Docket containers, in a mega-constellation satellite network.
The main idea is to adapt Kathara https://www.kathara.org/ to support time-variant communication rates. Each satellite is modeled with a Docker container.
Required skills Wireless communication systems.
IP networking.
Linux.
Very good programming skills. (mainly, Python).
