Descrizione Raman spectroscopy is one of the most powerful tools for non-destructive materials investigation. It exploits the Raman scattering, an inhelastic interaction between photons and matter. Raman spectra in solids are often characterised by a superposition of peaks. In order to properly identify the various peaks an appropriate knowledge of the peaks shapes is obviously critical. Despite this fact and despite the fact that many different lineshapes have been proposed, the current situation is still far from satisfactory in terms of basic understanding. In particular, the fact that the signal recorded as a a function of the scattered photon energy is actually a mapping in the frequency domain of a phenomenon occuring in the time domain is somewhat overlooked. The aim of this thesis is to analyze in detail the correlation between lineshapes and time dependence of the phenomena through Fourier transforms and identify mechanisms that can explain the time behaviour. The candidate will be required to develop appropriate softwares aimed to handle the Foreir transform for the various lineshapes and time dependences and investigate the physical mechanisms of interaction that can lead to such behaviours.
