Description The goal of this work is to develop a home automation system for Minerva Social Cooperative, a young initiative to help people with special needs. The project includes development of a distributed and energy efficient system for control and information processing compliant with open KNX standard. Besides controlling the environment (lighting, heating etc.) and built-in devices, the system should provide monitoring each patient's conditions and collect data that allow a team of psychologists and psychiatrists to assess the impact of the automation on the patient's health and well-being. In particular, a reliable face recognition algorithm is to be implemented that is based on machine learning procedures.
