Description The aim of the 3DCarbo project is to design/elaborate new composite materials adapted to liquid deposition modelling (LDM) additive manufacturing that can be used for the fabrication of 3D components for energy generation and storage devices. The work will be carried out at Laboratoire de Genie des Procedes Papetiers (LGP2, Grenoble-INP), Grenoble, France. The monthly salary will be 500€. Recent works carried out at LGP2 showed that furfuryl alcohol (FA) oligomers and cellulose micro particles/carbon nanotubes blends can be formulated in order to obtain thick pastes that can ben processed in LDM 3D printers. Moreover, FA oligomers thermal curing and their subsequent carbonization under inert atmosphere allow obtaining highly conductive carbon structures. 3D structured biocarbon electrodes can be therefore obtained by combining the use of a fully biosourced FA/cellulose composite, LDM 3D printing and carbonization. The objective of the proposed master thesis is the search for direct correlations between processing parameters (i.e. paste composition-3D printing/curing parameters-carbonization conditions) and the mechanical, electrical and geometrical properties of the final 3D printed electrodes.

Required skills Basics on materials science/characterization (mechanical, electrical, rheological), Knowledge of FDM 3D printing process, basic knowledge of G-Code will be a plus.
