Description This thesis work aims at the design of a 3D bioengineered chronic ulcer model as innovative tool to reduce and replace the use of in vitro animal models and pre-clinically test the biocompatibilility and functionality of advanced therapies in a more relevant environment compared to 2D cell cultures. The 3D models will be engineered according to a green and sustainable approach and will result from the combination of many competences in material science, co-culture and rapid prototyping (3D bioprinting). The work will encompass 4 phases (i) bio-ink design, (ii) cell co-culture and encapsulation into the bio-ink, (iii) CAD design of the chronic ulcer model, and (iv) fabrication and characterization of the 3D bioengineered model.
