Thesis type EXPERIMENTAL AND MODELING
Description The major objective of this work is to create a novel catheter design for administration of a nanoparticle gel into tissue. Prototype generation would be performed using 3D printing and access to a machine shop. This project would involve device designs and iterations as well as testing in ex vivo cardiac tissue. The student could also assist with nanoparticle gel formulation. Depending on project progress there is potential for device testing in vivo in a large animal (porcine model). Testing would be performed with a team that includes the PI, Dr. Filgueira, a clinical cardiologist, a vet staff team who maintains care of the animal, and Filgueira lab staff. The Thesis will be don at the labs ov Houston Methodist Hospital.
Required skills The student will have 2 possibilities: CAD / Solidworks drawing and design can be performed remotely or in presence (Houston, Texas, USA). For those intentioned to travel, a period of 6 months minimum is required in the USA. This project would involve a large animal (pigs) model, therefore, the student would need to be comfortable working with vet staff after training. Required skills: Excellent knowledge of CAD prototyping (Solidworks), statistics, excellent english level (oral and written), and positive attitude to work in a heterogeneous environment.
