Descrizione Most of the Internet traffic generated by a user is originating from a WiFi network. However, the WiFi technology is rather complex and it includes information that is usually ignored in the Linux networking stack. However, this information may be crucial to understand the behavior of the connected user, e.g., which access points he connected to, and more.
For similar reasons, Bluetooth is equally important, e.g., because it transports audio data between earbuds and smartphone.
This thesis aims at exploring the additional low-level information offered by the WiFi and Bluetooth technologies, in the following directions:
Increase the number of information collected by inspecting WiFi/Bluetooth raw data transmitted over the air;
Verify the possibility to leverage known exploits (e.g., recent WiFi or Bluetooth exploits) in order to collect even more information from the target user;
Depending on the obtained results, it will be evaluated the possibility to develop and integrate a Proof of Concept, into an existing probe with the aim of demonstrating such exposures.
This thesis will be carried out with the collaboration of XXXLAB (undisclosed company), mostly on the company premises (5 mins walking distance from Torino Porta Nuova train station); depending on the student average mark, it may include a scholarship.
