Description The Neovascularized Implantable Cell Homing and Encapsulation (NICHE) platform is a 3D printed polymeric implant for pancreatic islets transplantation in the context of type 1 diabetes treatment. The NICHE platform integrates local delivery of immunosuppressant drugs into a fully vascularized transplant microenvironment within the same implant. A key aspect of the platform is achieving sustained and effective immunosuppressant release while limiting systemic exposure to the drug. The master student will develop and test in vitro and in vivo technologies to optimize the drug delivery performances of the NICHE platform.
