Descrizione The Neovascularized Implantable Cell Homing and Encapsulation (NICHE) platform is a 3D printed polymeric implant for cell transplantation. The NICHE platform integrates local delivery of immunosuppressant drugs into a fully vascularized transplant microenvironment within the same implant. A major challenge is the necessity to integrate vascular networks into bioengineered constructs to enable physiological functions including adequate oxygenation, nutrient delivery, and removal of waste products. The NICHE approach relies on the use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to induce vascularization of the transplant microenvironment. However, recent advances in tissue engineering have highlighted the use of various cellular sources, proteins, polymers, and 3D bioprinting systems for generating functional tissue scaffolds. The master student will explore, develop and test in vitro and in vivo innovative tissue scaffolds to integrate into the NICHE platform.
