Description High cost and limited lifetime are still critical factors limiting the adoption of high temperature
electrolysis systems, based on Solid Oxide Cells (SOC) technology, to replace less efficient
low temperature systems based on alkaline technology or PEM. The production cost reduction
and reliability increase of SOC systems necessarily pass through the reduction of the operating
temperature of the latter: Protonic Ceramic Cells technology (PCC), based on proton
conduction, is potentially adequate to operate at lower temperatures compared to SOC
technology and its development is therefore considered enabling for the deployment and
industrialization of medium-high temperature electrolysis systems.
This project aims at developing further knowledge useful to make the PCC technology evolve
in the medium term from the single cell to the stack level.
