Thesis type MODELLING
Description Multiphase chemical reactors are very common in the chemical industry. In particular, gas-liquid stirred tanks and bubble columns, are employed for the fermentation of biomasses, reuse of CO2, microalgae production ad cell culture, with the objective of producing, for example, fuels and added-value chemicals from renewable sources. Their modelling is extremely useful as it allows their seamless design, scale-up and optimization. The computational techniques adopted in this thesis are computational fluid dynamics and population balances, whereas the application areas ranges from fermentation of biomasses to cell culture for meat cultivation.
