Description User tracking has become massive on the web and several anti-tracking browser extensions have been developed to help people protecting their privacy while surfing the web (e.g., DuckDuckGo, uBlock Origin, Ghostery, etc.). The main goal of the thesis work is to empirically evaluate and compare their effectiveness on different browsers, different categories of websites and different (simulated) locations. Further experimentations with anti-tracking tools for mobile apps might also be included.

Required skills The thesis requires very good knowledge of web applications and computer security, and good capabilities of data analysis. Grade point average equal to or higher than 26 can play a relevant role in the selection.
