Description Energy dissipation is a seismic mitigation technique that consists in dissipating most of the energy coming from the earthquake through special
devices, called heat sinks, in order to limit damage to the structural elements of the building.
A simple and direct design procedure has recently been proposed that can be used for the seismic rehabilitation of frame buildings through dissipative devices of the type
hysteretic (such as BRBs). In this study, developed in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano, we intend to optimize this sizing procedure of the energy dissipation system in order to pursue a desired seismic performance level, according to the limit states considered. The work will be carried out through the combined use of FEM modeling and evolutionary optimization algorithms.
