Thesis type EXPERIMENTAL AND MODELING

Description In-situ Computed Tomography (CT) can be used to investigate the response to the loading process of adhesive joints. In this thesis, a method will be investigated for the in-situ CT analysis of an adhesively bonded single-lap joint (SLJ) under shear-tension test. The adherends will be prepared with different techniques (3D printing or using silicon moulds) and polymers to study the mechanical behaviour of the SLJ. A Finite Element Model will be developed to simulate the joint behaviour and compare the predicted displacements and deformations with the results obtained from the in-situ CT.

Required skills Stresses and strains in solids, fundamentals fo the finite element method.
