Applications and implications of nanotechnology for wine growing in New Zealand

estero Thesis abroad

keywords ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT, NANOTECHNOLOGIES, PESTICIDES, EMERGING POLLUTANTS, DRUGS, SOIL, WATER RESOURCES, SUSTAINABILITY

Reference persons TIZIANA ANNA ELISABETTA TOSCO

External reference persons Prof. Melanie Kah, University of Auckland

Research Groups Ingegneria degli acquiferi / Groundwater engineering

Thesis type EXPERIMENTAL LABORATORY, MODELING AND DATA ANALYSIS

Description The thesis is carried out in the group led by Prof. Kah at the University of Auckland (New Zealand). The group investigates the fate and impact of novel nano-enabled pesticides at the laboratory and green-house scale. Examples of investigations include the transport and degradation of nano-enabled pesticides in soils, wash-off from leaves/fruits, and impact on non-target organisms and the soil microbiome. The ideal candidates will have good laboratory experience, excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, and they will be curious and good team players.

Required skills Key concepts of transport phenomena, contaminant fate in the environment, chemistry, environmental chemistry. Previous experience in the laboratory is preferred. If interrested to the topic but some of the background is missing, background knowledge gap can be solved with the guidance of Polito's advisor prior departure, as well as training on laboratory activities.
