Description What could it mean today to look towards another Mediterranean?
The aim of the thesis proposal is to investigate the opportunity for the architectural project, extending the usual "Mediterranean" geography, to return to assume a decisive role also in the transformation of settlement structures, trying to give answers to the pressing state of environmental, social and demographic emergency in a parallel path but aware of the strategic objectives of the programs of international policies.
In fact, if a new environmental planning (also confirmed by the recent revision processes of the directives on renewable energies for the European Green Deal or by the regulation of natural gas routes for the decarbonisation of economies) will see as protagonists, in the years to come, the Mediterranean and the "other" Mediterraneans of the North and South of the world. In the same way it is believed that there is margin for hypothesizing that in these territories also the social, urban and environmental transformations, like the architectural project and its operational and representative role, can find reference in experiences that are also geographically distant but comparable, for traditions and language, to a common expressive civilization.
Possible topics to explore:
- Project, Heritage, Infrastructure.
The new geography of the major world trade routes (the silk road, the salt road and the like), the phenomenon of immigration flows and the extraordinary opportunities that the changed world framework of maritime transport offers to the southern port system.
- The tradition of the "foundation city" and urban addition.
Investigating context-by-context, structural motivations, types and morphologies, architectural figuration.
- Natural disasters and reconstruction strategies.
Taking on the emergency that does not end up planning urban development. Programs, plans, projects for the South of Italy and other marginal contexts dialectical on the different realities.
- Productive question and figures of the industrial landscape.
The characteristics of an architecture of production activities and workplaces, in a figurative line also overseas, between the aesthetics of industrial landscapes and programs for city and territory transformation.
- Interventions and projects between «literacy campaign» and mass leisure time policy.
