Lightweight foamed concrete for structural applications

Reference persons DEVID FALLIANO, GIUSEPPE ANDREA FERRO, LUCIANA RESTUCCIA

Description Foamed concrete belongs to the category of lightweight concrete; this material is characterized by a system of air voids that can be interconnected (open-cell structure) or not interconnected (closed-cell structure); the presence of the pores makes it possible to achieve density values between 100 kg/m3 and 2000 kg/m3. There are a large number of studies in the relevant literature related to the application of foamed concrete for non-structural purposes. On the other hand, there are very few studies concerning the application of this material in the structural field. The purpose of the research is to optimize the mechanical properties of foamed concretes in the 800-1600 kg/m3 density range and to evaluate, through structural modeling of case studies, the benefits that may arise from using the optimized material for building structures, especially in seismic zones.
