Descrizione The aim of this thesis, to be developed in collaboration with the Egyptian Museum in Turin, is to develop an algorithm able to reconstruct in a digital way the fragments of archeological remains by analyzing the fracture surfaces of the single pieces. The algorithm could be first tested on a “modern” object reduced to pieces, and then applied to a use case to be agreed with the Museum (e.g., stone fragments from a statuary group, decorated floor or ceiling pieces, ceramic parts, etc.). The match between two fragments shall be identified based on the analysis of the geometries, not of the possible color information that could still be visible on the surface. The algorithm should provide a confidence score for the various matches identified. 3D geometries will be provided by the Museum. These geometries will be created using the Artec Space Spider, a structured light scanner capable to produce meshes with a resolution up to 0.1 mm.
