Description Muscle contractions increase the upstream arterial resistance. This is leading to increasing fractions of retrograde flow
the amount of which also depends on the capacitive properties of the conducting vessels. However, this has received
relatively little attention so far.
The aim of the project is to analyze an existing data set of power-doppler flow data that have been obtained during
graded contractions in a cohort of 10 young and 10 older men. The expected outcome are antero- and retrograde flow
and the derivation of capacitive reactance. Formulation and quantification of a theoretical model is encouraged.
Required skills Required: Signal processing; scripting, e.g., with python or R;
Desirable: interest and experience with physiological modeling
Notes The project should be conducted at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine, German Aerospace Center, in Cologne
