Description This thesis aims at defining an effective solution for the optical navigation of a small satellite involved in a soft-docking approach. The proposed solution will be verified through a dedicated test bench.
Main tasks:
- review of the navigation strategies in the proximity of a target
- definition of the problem (in terms of illumination constraints, target features, system constraints ) and identification of effective solutions (i.e. algorithms able to calculate relative position and velocity between target and chaser when the relative distance is less than 1 meter)
- implementation (in Matlab for analysis and on a embedded system for the testing) and verification of the proposed solutions
- providing of results and final remarks on the work
The work is related to the SROC project developed by Politecnico di Torino and funded by the European Space Agency (ESA)
