Description Recent weather events in Texas and California have shown the vulnerability of modern power systems when a peak of demand appears as a consequence of extreme temperatures. Today, IoT-based smart thermostats are becoming pervasive, offering new opportunities to apply intelligent control during these events, and prevent large scale blackouts. In this thesis, we will study distributed control strategies to mitigate peak loads. These strategies are inspired by distributed network control protocols for flow and congestion control. Additionally, the student will be required to learn the software Energy Plus to perform realistic experiments.
