Thesis type EXPERIMENTAL AND SIMULATIONS
Description Reflective insulation systems represent a promising technology for the improvement of the summer thermal performance of building components exposed to solar radiation, such as roofs.
The main aim of this thesis is to assess the possible advantages of combining glass mineral wool (as an insulation with low thermal capacity) and reflective membranes to achieve relevant energy savings in pitched roofs, with an emphasis of achieving summer overheating protection and (peak) cooling demand reduction.
To achieve this aim, a comparative long-term summer experimental monitoring will be carried out on different roof insulating solution that will implement reflective membrane and different insulation thicknesses. The experimental monitoring campaign will be carried out in the TRIS parallel test room system in the summer 2023.
Moreover, a parametric simulation analysis will be carried out using "IBK DELPHIN" software to:
• assess the possible advantages of combining glass mineral wool (as an insulation with low thermal capacity) and reflective membranes to achieve relevant summer energy savings in pitched roofs;
• determine the effect of different design parameters and locations on the exploitation of the performance offered by the reflective membrane when applied to the insulated pithced roof.
